INITIATIVES

LOLLDAIGA VALLEY

The Lolldaiga Valley Partnership is a collaboration between Lolldaiga Valley and the communities of Umande and Muramati to our south. An innovative business model is using ecosystem services finance, community-based enterprises and annual financial contributions from our nature housing initiative to support habitat restoration and community development initiatives.

Habitat Restoration

INITIATIVES

A core aim of the Lolldaiga Valley initiative is to restore riverine forest along the Timau River, to stabilise eroded areas, and to carry out extensive grassland restoration in order to increase habitat for wildlife.

Partnerships have been formed with local communities who we are supporting with finance to create indigenous tree nurseries. We are also financing sustainable wood fuel plantations to alleviate pressure on natural forests within Lolldaiga Valley and elsewhere.

The Lolldaiga Valley initiative has an ambitious vision to restore all riverine forests along the river area and watercourses over the next 20 years.  We also want to restore the many acacia forests and grasslands to provide a mosaic of rich habitats for wildlife.

Working with Local Partners

INITIATIVES

The Lolldaiga Valley Partnership is a collaboration between Lolldaiga Valley and the communities of Umande and Muramati to our south.

An innovative business model is using ecosystem services finance, community-based enterprises and annual financial contributions from our nature housing initiative to support habitat restoration and community development initiatives.

The Partnership has already created over 60 local jobs and expects to generate at least 200 jobs for local community members in the next 5-10 years.

Investing in Communities

INITIATIVES

We work work closely with our neighbouring communities to understand their needs and partner with them to develop targeted programmes that help to build social and environmental resilience.

Recent intiatives have included the construction of facilities for local primary schools, funding for further education and after-school programmes, support for hospitality interships and work placements, and extensive investment in wildlife-conflict mitigation and sustainable water infrastructure, including the construction of local dams and community boreholes.

Driving Sustainable Economic Activity

INITIATIVES

Lolldaiga Valley is also catalysing significant further economic activity in the immediate local area through opportunities such as indigenous tree out-grower partnerships, sustainable wood fuel operations and small-scale organic farms.

In addition to supporting the local economy, these sustainable businesses help to strengthen the long-term resilience of local habitats and wildlife populations by improving water management and reducing environmental degradation.
